3,364 Civilians Killed in Syria in 2019

The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) released a report on January 1st which says that 3364 civilians were killed in Syria in 2019 by the perpetrator parties to the conflict in Syria, including 234 in December.

SNHR documented the death of 842 children and 486 women in 2019.

Of the 3364 victims, the Syrian regime killed 1497, including 371 children and 224 women, the SNHR says. 

It adds that Russian forces killed 452 civilians, including 112 children and 71 women. 

According to the report, 94 civilians were killed by the Islamic State, including 11 children and 7 women, while other organizations killed 49 civilians, including 6 children and 2 women who were killed by Hayyat Tahrir al-Sham and 4 others killed by the Turkistan Islamic Party.

The report also documents the death of 21 civilians, including 8 children and a woman, who were killed by the Syrian opposition factions, while 164 civilians, including 50 children and 15 women, were killed by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

The International Coalition killed in 2019 68 civilians, including 20 children and 17 women, according to the report. 

Other conflicting parties killed 1019 including 264 children and 149 women. 

The report says that 26 medical rescuers were killed in Syria in 2019, 14 of them were killed by the regime forces and 6 were killed by the Russian forces.

In 2019, 13 media workers were killed, including 6 who were killed by the regime forces, 2 by the Russian forces, 1 by HTS and 4 by other parties, the reports says.

It points out that 17 members of the civil defence were killed in 2019.

The report adds that 305 people were killed under torture including 275 who were killed by the regime forces.

The report states that 109 massacres were documented in 2019, 43 massacres of them were committed by the Syrian regime forces, 22 by the Russian forces, 6 by the Syrian Democratic Forces, 3 by the international coalition forces, and 35 by other parties.

The report added that 14 massacres were documented in December, 6 by the Syrian regime forces, 4 by the Russian forces, and 4 by other parties.
