Dr. Jawad Abu Hatab was elected on Tuesday as a head of the Syrian interim government succeeding dr. Ahmed Toumeh in the first government ever formed inside Syria.

Dr. Jawad Abu Hatab was born in 1962 in Wadi Barada region in Damascus countryside. He studied medicine at the University of Damascus in 1988 then got his PH.D in general surgery from an Italian University. He also holds a PH.D in Cardiology for children which entitled him  to become one of the most famous cardiologists in the middle east.

Dr. Jawad Abu Hatab is the dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Aleppo's free university and was a former member of the public body of the coalition. He nominated himself to become the Secretary General of the coalition against Yahya Maktaby, but the latter won the position.

Abu Hatab was also the head of the Coordinating Bureau of the local councils in Damascus, and then became a member of the Executive Office being the head of the medical office.

Education and heath are the most areas of interest according to Abu Hatab as he posted on his Facebook account "Education is our priority".

He also published on the 6th of May "rebuilding the Syrian society, preventing its collapse and preserving our culture and identity is everyone's responsibility. No one has the right to withdraw from such issues, especially education and health care. We also have to work against braindrain, the thing that the international community is betting upon, else we will become the weakest because the regime and his supporters are stable and not willing to budge an inch in their occupied areas."

Ousama Taljo, member of the coalition political committee said in an interview with Baladi News: "the coalition has formed a committee to prepare a report on the implementation mechanisms of the new government. One of the recommendations is that the government must be formed inside Syria and contain members living there along with merging some ministries.

"the political body of the coalition will present within 15 days the final recommendations to be carried out by the designated head, pointing out that the government should be formed and presented to the coalition in their next meeting ", he added.
