A humanitarian catastrophe at Zayzun camp

Nura Albasha

Hundreds of displaced families in the countryside of Daraa suffer from lack of basic services in the camps, the place they resort to running away from the danger of shelling and clashes. However, they do face several problems, including lack of basic needs of living, especially that a lot of families lost their breadwinners and started depending only on relief aids.

Around 550 families live in Zayaun camp in the countryside of Daraa amidst a lack of basic necessities of life along with an increase in the number of displaced people, especially after the fighting between the free army factions and Yarmouk Martyr Brigade against Muthanna Movement, who are accused of swearing allegiance to the " Islamic state" organization in the countryside of Daraa.

"Abou Muhammed Alhourani", an source from the camp said to Baladi news that "the most difficult suffering faced by families in Zayzun camp is the scarcity of food portions, as we haven't seen any for three months. Since that time, IRD was the last company entered and distributed some aid."

"Furthermore, children's milk has been scarce for more than a year, which may lead to a health disaster if the case remained the same", he continued.

"A number of epidemics and diseases has spread among the people of the camp, especially among children., in addition to the accumulation of garbage that has been recently observed everywhere", he added.

"The poor health conditions and the scarcity of tents, especially with the increasing number of displaced people, the camp faces much more severe crisis than the previous one", the journalist "Iskender Al Hourani" reported to Baladi news.

The situation of Zayzun camp is not better than the other camps inhabited by Syrians, but an imminent catastrophe may affect the camp if no relief was provided as soon as possible, according to local sources.
