Boat with 175 Syrian migrants arrives in North Cyprus

BALADI NEWS

A boat carrying 175 Syrian migrants, 30 women, 69 children and 76 men, was spotted off Trikomo in the Turkish-held northern Cyprus.

The boat was received by members of the “police” who escorted passengers to the Fazıl Küçük sports centre in Trikomo.

The arrivals will be subjected to medical checks.

Meanwhile, the Yialousa mayor has reportedly launched an online campaign to gather help for the 175, mentioning that among them is a one-month-old baby.

The Republic of Cyprus, an EU member, says it is on the front line of the Mediterranean migration route with the highest number of first-time asylum seekers per capita.

Several migrant boats carrying Syrians have reached Cyprus in recent months.

However, the island has not seen the massive inflows experienced by Turkey and Greece.
