With Yellow Phosphorus… Regime Paves the Way for Using Chemical Weapons in Idlib

Ibrahim Ramadan, Baladi News

The pro-regime (Masyaf  News) Facebook page has published a statement on Tuesday in which it talked about preparations for "a chemical attack" by Ahrar al-Sham movement by using a chemical material which the page called "yellow phosphorus". The page added that Ahrar al-Sham will try to falsely charge regime forces with the attack through wearing their uniforms and publishing images and videos during the execution of this operation to pretend that regime forces did it and to accuse it of using chemical weapons against civilians.

The page claimed that the attack is supported by America as two American chemical experts have visited the depot used to prepare the weapon which is located 12 meters under the ground near the city of Saraqip in Idlib. The page also accused Turkey of cooperating through mentioning that the American female experts have headed to Turkey after accomplishing their mission.

The military editor of Baladi News commenting on the news said that: "the news come within the regime's stupid propaganda to promote that the rebels are using chemical weapons", and that it could be a preparation for a chemical attack against the region under the pretext of bombarding the depot containing the weapon, or even a chemical attack against liberated or regime-held areas to attract international support to eliminate the rebels for using chemical weapons.

The military editor, "Rani Jaber", also confirmed that the mentioned term of "Yellow Phosphorus" is a mere usage of an unknown terminology to describe a weapon used against the civilians on a daily basis by Russia and the regime, which is white phosphorus in their incendiary bombs by which it burnt several Syrian cities and towns.

Yellow Phosphorus

White or Yellow phosphorus are two names for one compound which is (Tetra Phosphorus p4), a compound with a white wax-like form, but it turns yellow when subjected to light and that's why it's called yellow phosphorus.

The white or yellow phosphorus can be classified as an incendiary weapon more than being a chemical one as it depends mainly on burning and the chemical effect is an additional one. For example, its effect is totally different from the gas used by the regime in the massacre of Ghouta (nerve gas), as its inhalation causes a number of injuries that are less serious than those resulted from inhaling Sarin, Phosgene, and Sulfur mustard gases as a large amount of nerve gas is needed to cause the same level of injuries in vast and open areas.
