After five years of imprisonment, cameraman and media activist Osama al Habali from Homs city died on Tuesday due to torture by Assad’s regime in the infamous Saydnaya prison.

Osama’s sister, Sawsan, wrote, “we received the news of the death of my brother today. It’s easy to say may you rest in peace, but I was waiting for your release to celebrate, rejoice at your marriage getting children and pursue the course of revolution.”

Since the beginning of the revolution, al Habali had conveyed the image of peaceful demonstrations in the neighborhoos of Khalediya and Bayadain Homs through short and distinct documentaries, including “Rendez-vous with a Shell.” His short films were shown at several festivals and some of them were shown on European channels.

Osama al Habali, who hails from al Khalediya neighborhood in Homs city, was born in 1988. He was arrested by Assad’s regime forces on August 12, 2012 on the Syrian-Lebanese borders as he was back from a treatment trip for a previous injury,
