Horrific injuries of Syrian boy, 4, blinded in airstrike as family fled war zone

BALADI NEWS

A four-year-old Syrian refugee has been left completely blind with horrific facial scars after his family was hit by an airstrike as they fled the war zone.

The boy, named Jouma, still bleeds from his wounds and shards of glass are still coming out of his scarred skin a year on from the strike.
Unable to see, his senses have become stronger and he touches people's faces in order to recognise them when they meet again.

Jouma and his family have since made it out of Syria to neighbouring Lebanon, where they are living in a poor neighbourhood in Beirut, but they remain severely traumatised.

The Kurdish family - Jouma, his parents and two siblings - all live together in a tiny room and are hoping to be granted asylum in a European country.

They were recently interviewed by the BBC, who visited them at the block of flats to find out how they are getting on and what their hopes are for the future.
