Russia starts dismantling Rukban camp

BALADI NEWS

Russia has begun dismantling the Rukban camp for Syrian refugees on the Syrian-Jordanian border, according to a plan announced last week, Russian media reported.

Russian officials didn't clarify the fate of the camp's inhabitants.

"The process of dismantling and emptying the camp will begin on Friday, and it may take a month to completely clear the camp" Russian media added.

35 Russian military policemen are participating in the evacuation process, and 12 Russian special military units, will organize the exit of displaced people through the "Glygem" point.

Andrei Bakin, head of the Russian Center for Reconciliation, stressed that the process of evacuation will be under the supervision of the United Nations and the Syrian Red Crescent.

The evacuation will happen within 30 days, in three batches, each of which batches will consist of 3500 people whom will be transferred to other shelters.

The camp's 50,000 residents reject the regime and Russia's calls to evacuate the camp and to reconcile with the Assad regime.
